Gravity feed guns leave less paint in the pot, and when you are blowing
auto finishes today, that matters a lot. They also feed a little
better, though a good siphon gun should have a pressure bleed for the
pot that balances it out. Siphon feed guns generally can hold more
paint, so if you are shooting something large it might make a
difference. Also the pot doesn't block your view of the paint you are
laying down like a gravity feed gun. I spent about twelve hundred
renewing all of my equipment about ten years ago when the gravity feed
had only made major inroads for touchup guns, so I bought siphon. My
stuff still looks like new, so no excuse to upgrade. If your painting
tractor trailers, or primering entire cars in a go, I would go with a
pot maybe, otherwise the gravity feed is probably better these days. If
someone is offering you an older siphon gun for free (or nearly so) take
it, a quality siphon gun beats a chinese gravity feed gun if you care
about the finish.
