Alix,

>From what I can tell the original finish on my champion 400 was gray paint.
For things I don't want to paint, I power brush and coat with used motor
oil.  Leaves a nice brown finish.

I just rebuilt my demo blower (a 400) and they are pretty easy to work on.
I could take the cover off and take a picture of how the gears fit together,
if that would help.
