Just a thought: If you have a film company or one that provides
on-location services for movie crews near you, you may be able to get
long lengths of heavy, single-conductor, multi-strand flexible cable
rated for 200V to 600V for cheap or free. (Those big lights use a
*lot* of amps!) Such a company has a maintainance guy who checks all
the heavy duty lighting cables for damaged insulation after every
tear-down. He's your man.

I got my 50' cables for free because they were damaged near the ends
and were junked. Of course I carefully inspected the cable I'm using
for visible insulation damage and I'll not use them out in the rain
and mud in any case. I hand-fabbed brass plugs because my old 250A
AC/DC doesn't match the ones currently available from my supplier.
New cable like this cost C$1.50 to C$2.00 a foot at Princess Auto,
more at conventional welding supply places.
