Mike, Seems a bit light. I've been called a couple times to islands to
weld.......... once we used a 12 guage wire........but about 8 of
them.........and another time we used jumper cables to get the power to
where we had to get it.
This of course is temporary, not approved by osha, and bleah, bleah, woof,
woof..........but it gets the job done.
If you want an extension cord for a small buzz box, you really ought to have
a #4 or # 6 so the welder will work 20-50 feet away from a power plug.
The other option is to extend the welding leeds..........NOT the power
input. You'll get further quicker in that direction.

Subject: [TheForge] extension chord
Hi;
I need to make up a 20 ft extension chord for my 225 amp buzz box in a hurry
for a job and am wondering if I can get away with using # 12 wire without
stressing it out. Live on an island and that is the biggest size that is
rubber coated that the hardware store has in stock. I could get the plastic
coated #10 and put a steel coiled shield around it but it would seem to be
really inconvenient trying to coil it up. Any suggestions. Thanks in
advance.
