My spec book says the rail can be from 1070 to 1095. The lower carbon rails
have a higher percentage of alloying material like Manganese in them. All
the modern rail is induction hardened on the top face. So it is best to cut
it upside down.
When using a chop saw to cut hardened steel, use a star type grinding wheel
dresser to break the glaze on the wheel.
