Thanx, Bob.
I'm trying to retro-fit a 4 post press for a larger cylinder/pump, etc. I
like the fact that the guide system is already there on your press. Making
one from scratch is a possibility but I'm keeping my eyes out for an old
Rouselle or Buffalo, etc.

Steve,
It took about a week to do the conversion from punch press to hydrolic
press. That's with my son working on it full time and me about half time,
when he needed help. It was his project and is his press.
The hardest part was cutting the frame to make room for the hydrolic
cylinder. The rest was just a lot of time drilling and welding the new
frame. The ram was about the easiest part, it had great guides. We just cut
off the section of the connecting rod that went into the crank. Ground it
flat to fit the yoke of the cylinder and drilled a hole for the pin. We had
to weld the connecting rod in place because it would shift position when
under load, scaired the s**t out of us. I think it is rated at 25 ton.
The quick change dies really make it versital.
Daniel uses it all the time to make damascus. I don't use it very often but
it sure makes quick work of tenons, just put in a depth stop and turn th bar
until it is the right size. Because it sucks the heat out of the work so
fast it usuall takes two heats per tennon but it's easy on the arm.
