Phlip, the politics are minor and inevitable whenever more than one
person is involved in any endeavor. Been years since I did anything
with the SCA, but here in Texas there were plenty of he said she said
there as well. I belong to EAA ( Experimental Aircraft Association) and
the same thing goes on there too. And for all of these organizations
there are always plenty of people that are hard at work advancing the
goals of the organization and benefiting the members and often unaware (
sometimes willfully so) of the "politics". These are minor really and
would probably go away or work themselves out if properly aired. I
know after it was all said and done the anvil shoot/ chapter issue was a
non issue for me, it was the lack of facts that had me ticked. When
someone finally wrote up the concerns in one of the publications I
understood if not agreed with the actions ( basically some lawyer
convinced the board they could be personally liable if someone hurt
themselves at an anvil shoot. If a lawyer could convince a bunch of
blacksmiths of this, then they have better than even odds of convincing
12 reasonable people of the same thing) As I have said before, ABANA
is largely achieving its goals and is money well spent in my opinion
and not joining because of these politics is a poor excuse. Better to
say you are too busy with SCA.
