Phlip, the politics are minor and inevitable whenever more than one 
person is involved in any endeavor.  Been years since I did anything 
with the SCA, but here in Texas there were plenty of he said she said 
there as well. I belong to EAA ( Experimental Aircraft Association) and 
the same thing goes on there too.  And for all of these organizations 
there are always plenty of people that are hard at work advancing the 
goals of the organization and benefiting the members and often unaware ( 
sometimes willfully so) of the "politics".    These are minor really and 
would probably go away or work themselves out if properly aired.   I 
know after it was all said and done the anvil shoot/ chapter issue was a 
non issue for me, it was the lack of facts that had me ticked.   When 
someone finally wrote up the concerns in one of the publications I 
understood if not agreed with the actions ( basically some lawyer 
convinced the board they could be personally liable if someone hurt 
themselves at an anvil shoot.  If a lawyer could convince a bunch of 
blacksmiths of this, then they have better than even odds of convincing 
12 reasonable people of the same thing)   As I have said before, ABANA 
is largely achieving  its goals and is money well spent in my opinion 
and not joining because of these politics is a poor excuse.  Better to 
say you are too busy with SCA.
