Phlip,
You ARE aware, I suppose, that fire clay is a natural mineral and can
be dug from the ground in many areas. USGS, USDA, state agencies, etc.,
may be able to tell you whether there's a clay vein on your property.
You can look at stream banks to see if there's an obvious clay layer.
Or get a bunch of little boys to dig holes to China in your back yard
and watch for clay...

Well, I tried a couple places here, and surprisingly enough, got my
best
leads from employees at Home Depot, but still haven't found what I
want
locally. Will likely ask my friends at the flea market Sunday- they've
lived
around here for quite a while, and know a lot of interesting
resources.
Really is tough, living in the country in a new area- you know things
hafta
be there somewhere, but where can be the question ;-)
Speaking of which, how are you doing in Maine? If you'd like a nice
event to
go to, Vinland Raids out on Capre Cod is coming up- also, you're
fairly
close to Great Northeastern War. I'm going to try to get to both with
my
forge, and I'd love to finally meet you ;-)

"When in doubt, heat it up and hit it with a hammer."
Blacksmith's credo.
If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably not a
cat.
Never a horse that cain't be rode,
And never a rider who cain't be throwed....
