Build as big and as well as you can afford.
We just sold some land and I'm finally getting to build a "real" shop. I'm
putting up a 30' x 40' steel kit building because I can't afford a 40' x 60'
steel building.
I don't know how it is in the UK but even if I used timber off my land I
couldn't build as large for as little, especially considering time and
durability.
