Okay, so my net connection was down for a week. I'm back at a
blinding 9600 bps and recovering from net withdrawal, presumably
stuck at 9600 until the local telco strike is over. Gak!
So as an alternative to ABANA feuds, journalistic stupidity and
national politics, a drive-by gloat:
I'm the happy owner of half a dozen "shiney-jingly things", dentist's
drills, the old kind with the articulated arm and all those pulleys
for a braided string belt. The local Buy & Sell guy was tossing the
drills onto the scrap heap and selling the AC/DC motors fo $20. I
bought three motors and he gave me all the drills.
Eat your heart out, Dremel Moto-Tool, with your weak, wobbly,
loosening collet chuck and clunky grip. Hello industrial grade hand
piece.
I only have one belt and had to buy the speed control from Singer for
$18. And I'll have to buy a few 3/32"-shank stones and burrs -- C$30
for a nice set. But the thing works slick, the burrs don't loosen up
with the risk of speeding steel in the face, you can hold it like a
pencil. Just gotta keep your hair outen the pulleys -- that little
motor is torquey enough to pull out a nice, big scalp divot.
And now back to your regularly scheduled conflicts....
