[TheForge] People interested in blacksmithing

I have been working on compiling a list of people interested in blacksmithing. To do this I have been gathering membership lists from the affiliates (on a volunteer basis). This project will never be complete but is yielding some information.

1. There is less people with memberships in more than one affiliate than had been thought. It is averaging 1 or 2 per affiliate. The real active people do join more than one group, we've all have heard their names. The bulk of people belong one place, I think that it is costs. Also, the way groups share information, why spend the money to get the same information.

2. The percentage of affiliate members that belong to ABANA also runs from 20 to 40 percent. Low in the old south and increasing as you move north and west.

3. I think that the number of people in North America that are interested enough in blacksmithing to join a group would be found to be around 13,000. Unless I got all of the lists and had time to enter and compile the information an exact number will never be known. And, then it would only be good for that day.

Hope this helps. How about some smithing stuff. Really enjoyed the propane forge thread.
