1) forge from stainless or other non-rusting material. Hey, if you 
can sell the customer on it, he'll pay for the no-maintenance materials.

2) paint. A good layer of paint on properly prepped and primed metal
will last for a while. It will still need scraping/priming/recoating
every so often, but it will work

3) powder-coating.
