[TheForge] Outdoor finish, rust protection

I believe the only effective rust prevention for outdoor ironwork is =
paint. In my experience, oil/wax finishes just don't hold up for long. =
There are probably some commercial finishes, but for the amateur paint =
is about it. I've had painted ironwork last for years without any rust =
development ... that's with a good primer and about 3 coats of paint. =
The downside of paint is it tends to obscure some of the unique =
character of forged ironwork. I've not had good results with =
polyurethane; it began peeling after about a year. I beleive there are =
more sophisticated clear coat finishes available; but I'm not familiar =
with any. I'm sure others on TheForge list will have more definitive =
suggestions ...
