but I've not gotten a flame quite as
clean-looking as your picture.  After looking at your pictures, I went and
ordered Mike's book.  I really shouldn't complain; I've had results better
than any of my friends with commercial gas forges, but I always want to
tweak it just a bit more.

I have a question for other gas forge owners out there.  What's the best way
to mount the burners to the forge, bearing in mind that they have to come
out fairly easily to change nozzles or jets, and sometimes to transport the
thing.  I have a way that works, but I'm open to suggestions for
improvement.
  The  thumbscrew burner collar, which as far as I know was pioneered by Ron 
Reil. They are the only kind featured in my book, because they are the most 
adaptable to more than one burner size. I add sliding washers to help seal 
different burner sizes. Anyone with a lathe could further refine the idea by 
including a shoulder with a set screw. This is handy for horizontal burners used in 
furnaces.
