[TheForge] old messages - another virus ?

Listen up, folks. The reason none of the anti-virus software detects the
jdbgmgr.exe virus is that it is not a virus. This file is a part of the
Windows operating system.
This particular hoax has been around for at least two years that I know of.
Check this site for more info:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html
Symantec has a real good virus info center -- it's worth checking. McAfee
is also very good.

Hi Larry, I haven't been getting old posts from theforge........in fact
your's and Pete's note are the only ones.
I had a fellow send me a note that a virus had been circulating and screwing
up mail programs. He said it didn't get caught by McAffee or
Norton........and when I checked it was indeed laying dorment in my computer
waiting to activate. Maybe this is something we all should check for, as it
turned up on my computer and it may well be on your's as well.
Here's the note I got, and the Teddy Bear Icon did turn up on my search -
and I deleted it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello All,
Unfortunately a virus has been passed to us through an address book which
has also infected our address book. Since you are in my address book you
will probably find it in your computer too. The virus (called jdbg.exe) is
not detected by Norton or MacAfee anti-virus systems. The virus sits
quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by
messenger and by address book, whether or not you sent email to your
contacts. Basically that means you will pass the virus along unknowingly,
as we did. We were sent this email and are now passing it on so you know
how to check the virus and how to get rid of it. Please do this. It is
very simple and takes about 2 minutes.
1. Go to Start, then click you find or search option
2.In the folder option, type the name; jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure to search your c: drive and all sub folders and any other drives
you might have.
4. Click find now
5.The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmrg.exe, DO NOT OPEN IT!
6.Go to edit on the menu bar and chose select all to highlight the file
without opening it.
7. Now go to file on the menu bar and select delete. It will then go to the
recycle bin.
If you find the virus, you must contact all of the people in your address
book so that they may eradicate the virus from their own address books. To
do this
1. open a new email message
2. click the address book icon or button
3. Highlight every name and add to bcc:
4. Copy this message and paste to email. This will effect everyone in your
address book so please send it now.
I have contacted folks in my address book and some found it and some
didn't........go figure, but if theforge is sending this out with our
messages - we all need to be careful if we have undetectable viruses that
are time delayed circulating thru everyone's address books.
I deleted it three days ago, and it hasn't turned up since, so I'm
guessing it came from this fellow that sent me the note, but I can't explain
why others on my address book came up with it if it hadn't activated yet??
Just one of the many things that are beyond me, but it's worth checking if
it has made it to other computers.
