Only because you are thinking "electricity."  

kW is a general unit for power.  It can be electric power, mechanical
power, thermal engine power, or whatever.  

Using a single term for power (and other things) is the main claim to
fame for the "metric system", though I understand that some folks have
legitimate objections to metrification.  (kW, BTW, IS "metric.")
