I first met Roger 6 years ago; we took a forge welding class together.
While I continued to plod along trying to improve my forging techniques
he went on to bigger and better things. Roger became very active in the
BGCM, eventually running for and being elected the president of the
guild. While I enjoyed his company, he being a retired attorney was a
very tough opponent to argue with. I seldom (read never) won any
concessions from him in any "discussions" we had. He was a very strong
supporter of the guild, he was very generous with his time, and at every
meeting he was very generous with his iron in the hat donations. At one
of the last flair ups he was involved with the guild members (me
included) he resigned as president. Even though we didn't agree on many
things, I liked him because he was a man of conviction; he stood his
ground and fought to the end. He was a man of great character. He came
back to the guild after his resignation and was an active supporter to
the end. He deserved a great deal of respect from us all. Indeed he
will be missed by many.

My name is Shawn Duncan, I am Roger's nephew, and it is he I have to
blame for getting me started in blacksmithing. Thank you for your note
of
condolence.
You mentioned seeing him a few weeks ago, full of energy and very much
himself. He was that way up to the very end, as he died of a snap heart
attack helping a friend work up firewood on a beautiful Maryland
Saturday morning. He will be missed by many.
