A while back I had to repair the water jacket on a vertical hit or
miss engine. A large chunk had broken out from water freezing in the
jacket. A fellow who restores cast iron stoves told me this method. I
beveled the edges of the pieces, then heated the jacket till I could
just see color. I gas welded the parts using a cast iron rod and cast
iron flux, heated again until I saw color, then wrapped the part in
kaowool to cool. The part came out great, and I got the rod and flux at
a local dealer, cheaper that a whole new set up.
