Where I work (all three jobs) are nonunion shops. I have slowly watched my
benefits and hours shrink over the past 10 years.
On my main "Full time" job. First went the Christmas bonus. OK, that
wasn't that big a deal, then two hundred employee parking spaces were gifted to
physicians only, then we get cut from 40hrs with option of 8hrs overtime every
other week to straight 40hrs overtime available first come first serve. Then
40hrs no overtime in your dept. but if you want to work in another dept. that is
ok. We briefly had 40hrs no overtime period. Now it is 36hrs period no
overtime allowed. Hence the 3 jobs.
I still am full time with benefits (in 10 years my cost of benefits have
jumped 10 times and I now have less coverage now for more price) I still
accrue retirement but only at 36 hrs. At this rate by the time I can retire I will
be short numerous years.
I would leave but in this area my circumstances are by comparison
quite good. Its a shame that I have to say that but I don't think anyone is
doing any better. By looking at other hospitals in my area they are in worse shape
and treat the employees worse. Bring on the Union, Cant get much worse.
Time enough for sleep in the grave.
Tod Estes.
