Stupid question time from the chemistry challenged.

Graphite, with its high point of sublimation (isn't that what they
call the transition directly from solid to gaseous state?) of
something like 6K*, is temerapture resistant to say the least.

I'm assuming that this would not be a good sacrificial element to
introduce into a gas forge for the purposes of attaining a reducing
atmosphere.  Or would it?

If not, what would be?  I speak in terms of providing a
non-contaminating
source of carbon that would last longer than just a few minutes as is
the case with materials such as leather and bone meal.

Would a little box of Kase-N-Ite, boiling away at the bottom of the
forge work well?
