that's about $5 or $6, not $8.   and what's your average trip?  around
here, 50 mile round trip to work isn't unusual.  that can be 5gal/$10 or
more every day.  could you use public transport?  most of america can't -
it doesn't exist.  the nearest bus stop is 20 some miles down the road -
and i'm considered to be in a major metropolitin area.  so i'll trade
you, gas prices for public transport.
