A dna study recently made the link to, if I remember correctly, the
Norwegian Forest cat.

Frosty:  No surprise on the predatory nature of Maine Coons....they are said
to be a direct offshoot of the European Forest Cat (felis silvestris) and
are very self-sufficient.  A perfect cat for the Great White North. I have a
medium-haired tortoiseshell named Dizzie, who is very athletic, but spooked
by loud noises; a tortoiseshell trait, I am told.  Grant
