By and large, nitric acid is not easily available and it took me a while to 
find a source that would even sell to me, much less in small quantity. I last 
purchased some from Thomas Scientific in Swedesboro, NJ but had to establish 
myself as a legitimate business entity before hand. Essentially provided tax 
exemption certificate, EIN code and filled out a document. I used it for 
passivating some stainless. I received 67-70% reagent grade nitric at $67.65 for 2.5L 
bottle. I did a "will call" pickup so unfamiliar with shipping costs or 
problems.
