[TheForge] Cone Question

Terry,

The biggest problem with this arrangment is that the cone blanks are pie
shaped. For this particular cone they are almost pie quarters with about an
85 deg angle. You may be able to get away with pushing down on one corner
and having it go in right, but I would suspect that you would have to have a
hinged ram that would keep contact on the whole upper edge. Then how would
you get it to go down if you are pushing on the side. Maybe a V block that
would support the side and top as it goes in.

It would be an interesting exercise to work out.

hello;

i have been following this thread and offer the following::

make a die and mandrel similar to a hinge roll die and mandrel.
for reference please refer to
http://www.anvilfire.com/iForge/tutor/press_tools/tool_detail_hinge.htm

now instead of forming a straight cylindrical roll the die would be in
the shape of the required cone same for the mandrel.

if there are any reasons why is suggestion would not work i would
appreciate hearing them.
