Terry,

One of the bigest in the midwest is at Mount Pleasant, Ia.  I think it is
Labor Day Weekend but am not sure.

I set up at a small steam show this last weekend (Paris Mo.).  Everyone
there said that it has been shrinking in size for ten years.  In the
mid-70's they would have crouds of 10k, last weekend they had less than 2k.
They didn't have any full sized steam engines, only a couple 1/2 scale ones.
Someone told me that the cost of transporting the big engines is killing the
small shows.  They had a good gas engine section this year with over 150
hit-n-miss engines,  most of which were running.
