Ralph,
I'm the current caretaker of the Mastermyr Find. I'd like to encourage
you and everyone to consider getting and displaying this collection at
local events.
The concept I'm operating under is to ship the display from event to
event with the current event organization responsible for repacking,
holding, and then shipping it to the next event. The group wanting to
display the collection will pay for the shipping to their event. They
will then display it and hold it until they ship it to the next event,
etc. If they don't want to hold it, they can pay to ship it back to me.
Then the next group would pay to ship it from me to their location. The
cost to ship has been made relatively cheap by my access to a high
volume commercial UPS account, by shipping it TO a business address, and
by shipping it 5-7 day UPS ground. The collection is in 4 thin plywood
shipping boxes each weighing under 70lbs(another requirement to keep
shipping costs down). This way the display can be shipped normally for
under $100.00 (no more than $200.00) between any two points in the US.
To help defray the shipping costs, a "shipping fund" in the form of a
coffee can with sign asking for donations to cover shipping to other
events has been established. There's currently around $200 in the
shipping fund from donations and a slight profit from selling copies of
the Mastermyr find book. These funds, like the display are available on
a first come first served basis.
In reality since I took over, I've driven it to and attended all but one
of the events it's been displayed at. I have suggested to others that
this is the best way to get the collection to as many events as
possible. Coordinate with a number of guilds in a region and do I did in
the northeast last year, hand carry it from event to event. Contact me
and we can work out the details.

Well personally I hope Andy gets it... But then again it is for selfish
reasons, as he lives just across the river from me, and so I could see
it
in person then.
BTW adze is still in the works. So far real life has intruded heavily on
me
so I have not had time to even look at my shop, let alone work it.
Rob, what is required to get the set to event? What kind of events etc
are
allowed. I might be able to get several different group interested in
seeing it. A local SCA group has a HUGE Norse crowd and also perhaps I
can
get the Fort Vancouver Blacksmiths Guild interested.
So if you could give me particulars.... cost time etc.
Thanks
Ralph
