As was noted in another post, one importer is replacing the motors with 
UL listed units.   It was likely the motor.  I have had bad luck with 
these low cost motors.   General quality is one issue, and then that is 
compounded by the fact that many of them were not designed for 60hz.  A 
50hz motor will run on 60hz but may run much hotter.  If the motor is 
marginal to begin with, then it burns up.
