[TheForge] Tongs & power hammer - a safety issue?

I don"t know about your tongs but most of mine when the jaws are closed, the
handles aren't closed. Even the one's that do when you use the right one for
the stock you have, they don't close. So when you are working the stock even
if the jaws get under the dies the stock should prevent them from closing.
Also the jaws are shorter than the handles so the force should be a lot less
on the handle side. And the handles themself have some spring in them. It
might hurt like heck but lose a finger? Hmmm...

The only time I have my fingers between the reins is when I am tring to open
them. When I am hammering I have all my fingers gripping to keep the piece
from leaving the jaws.
Has anyone actually heard of this happening? Confirmed not Darwin Awards
stuff?
Marc
