You know, Bettina, these guys REALLY don't like your husband- they seem to
feel that HE shoiu;ld deal with all the noise ;-) I'm quite amused ;-)
All things considered, it might be more costr effective for yoym depending,
of course, how the land lays, to just build a large pole building- one side
of the wall being his, the other yours. He may or may not want heat- you'll
certainly need it occasionally. It really does get pretty cold on occasion
in the winter down there.

What you might do is build a pole building, big enough for each of you to
have your shops, with a utility room in between, including, perhaps, a
lavatory, so you can send visitors to that you don't necessarily want in
your house, as well as for your own usage. If he gets particularly dirty and
greasy playing with his vehicles, it might save you some cleaning, if he's
got a place to clean up before he gets into the house- same for you.

You could have your compresser, a hot water tank, and maybe a furnace out
of the way but easily accessible in there, as well as cleaning supplies and
any chemicals that you don't particularly want near forge fires. That way,
your shop could be entirely dedicated to tools, work area, and steel (trust
me, you'll collect some) with room for storage for light-but bulky stuff in
a loft above. With a garage door in front, and a people door in back,
aligned with the prevailing breezes, you could keep things cool on the
summer, and have plenty of fresh air.
