I looked on my shelf, and I dont have the Dyer sheet metal book, so I
dont know how good it is. I do have a dozen or so older sheet metal
books, and they are all oriented towards apprentices who will go to
work in a fully equipped shop, so they do tend to lean towards large
equipment.
My favorite sheet metal book that you can find easily, though, is still
the Metal Fabricators Handbook by Ron Fournier. HP books. Lots of
tricks for how to do things simply, like hammerforming, along with info
about alloys, fasteners, and then how to use those big tools.
I also really like Sheet Metal Shop Practice, by Leo Meyer, Published
by ATP books.
this is a book oriented towards apprentices as well, but with lots of
basic hand procedures included. How to measure, how to cut patterns,
how to solder, rivet, and more.
I am pretty sure this is still in print. I bought mine new in 1982, and
I dreamed about those tools for years, until I slowly got most of them.
Still dont have a decent shear, as my minimum requirements keep getting
bigger, but I now have a finger brake, 2 rolls, a combination machine,
and a big punch.
