Understand. Some of the microwave dudes here put pine into a waveguide =
for
a load. Just taper it. I've used a 50' of RG8 and 20' of RG58 open =
ended
for a 500 Watt 10 GHz load, once on a Sunday when no one was around to
unlock doors<G>.
We did have one vendor, run out of nitrogen for pressurization. Looked
around, found some argon and used that instead<G>. Then couldn't for =
the
life of them understand why the swr alarm kept going off<G>.
I sent the kids around the yard with an old magnetron magnet to pick up
nails after construction. Found out quickly to put it in a cloth bag.
Picked up lots of small pieces that were the dickens to get off. But the
cloth bag made it easy.
Woof

Hi Grover,
ET(SS) here, I started out as ET(R) which is where I learned=20
the 10 then volunteered to go subs and got to work on the BPS-15=20
(SSN-694 and SSN-575). If you want to see a interesting piece of wave=20
guide look at one that has to penetrate a subs pressure hull. One of=20
our worst problems was the exterior guide often leaked and the=20
microwaves don't travel too well through seawater the magnetron did=20
not like firing into a shorted guide too much either :-)
I used to have several of the magnets but lost them along the way=20
but they sure can cause some real problems with video monitors. I=20
once ruined a color TV with a magnet from the BPS-15 brought it up=20
close to the screen and had a good time making the picture shrink=20
down to the size of a quarter but afterwards I never could align the=20
beam back to get a proper color picture. I figure I must have=20
magnetized the shadow mask or something anyway that cost me a new TV=20
set because the wife did not appreciate seeing the images with red=20
blue and green halos around everything.
