I have taken a few weld classes at the CC. I personally think that it is 
worth it. Not only do you get a bit of time to have someone show you how, 
but you get to use their consumables. Yes you pay them but as much as I 
played I used way more than I paid. <grin>
And in some cases once you show that you know what you are doing they often 
let you do your own work. At least the CC where I am at does. They are not 
really structured at all  at least in terms of having to turn specific 
things in. They feel that it is your dollar so you get out what you put 
in..... Worked for me.
