Depends much on the quantity of dilution air. When I had a hood close 
coupled to my NG forge the pipe got hot enough to have started a fire if 
I hadn't figured that out before I fired it up the first time.

Where I penetrated the wall I had a triple wall metal heat shield.

Now I just vent the shop in general so it is not a problem.
