"Robert
What kind of roses are they. Ron Reil showed me patterns for cabbage roses,
but I have seen (35 years ago) Perfect tightly rolled Tudor roses and buds.
Ron
said there was a woman who taught a course on how to make that kind of rose,
but I never did find out who. This is an ongoing ambition with me. Does
anyone
know where to search out the pattern?
Mikey"
Mikey,
I "roll" my roses starting out with 'bout 18in of 1inch x 1/8in mild
steel strap (cause thats what the junk yard has tons of ) I fuller the petals
using the far edge of the anvil. Odd numbers of petals work the best I use 7
petals a lot. Then ball peen the individual petals to thin them. draw out a bit of
stem and a thorn then a lot of drawing out to the leaf on the opposite end of
the stem. Takes the overall length to a little over 30 inches. Using scrolling
pliers, channel locks and standard slip joint pliers to roll the petals
together to form the bud, and roll out the edges. on the other end fold and weld to
bring the leaf to the bud or wind the vine around and bring the leaf back the
bud. 1 rose 1 piece of metal 1sore arm.... I knew I should have rebuilt that
power hammer sooner.
Time enough for sleep in the grave.
Tod Estes.
