I am not sure what type they are but it is done in layers.I use 6 layers in 
all the center has 4 petals and each of the others have 5.I start with 2   4" 
dia circle these are the bottom layers as you go up I make the circles smaller 
by 1/8"(pairs)The next layer would be3 7/8" and the last 2 3.75" dia.On the 
first 4" dia circle I divide it into 5 sections cut toward the center leaving 
approx 1.2 from the centerI can then cut the petals from each section.When this 
is done I use it as the pattern for the rest of the layers.
I use #8 copper wire and thread the end 12/24 screw on a brass nut put on all 
the layers and another brass nut and crank it down snip the end and pein it 
down on top of the nut.Then it just a matter of foldin up all the layers
