Agreed,
The 3 inchers and up I've seen are usually 3/4" port so that should be
considered a minimum for that size cylinder.  Heck- If I could've I would
have bored out my 2 1/2" cyl. to that size.  You'da thunk a major benefit
would mean being able to run at a lower pressure.

3.5" cylinders are what John Larson over on the junkyard site uses for his
'line pressure' hammers.  He might be one who's brain needs picking.

	Consider the possibility that the larger cylinder may need more
	volume that 1/2" ports will provide.
