You need to use something hardenable for a hammer die. I don't think you
need to use anything fancy like S7 or H13 (unless you get it cheap). Are
you really going to run enough hot iron through the hammer quickly
enough to raise the die temp to several hundred degrees? Seems pretty
unlikely.
