Not only am I a dullard, but a reading challenged one as well.
I agree with dan about the anvil. Mild steel should suffice
for that purpose, but anything of the right size that you can
get cheap should be OK just as long as it isn't in a seriously
hardened state. That can be dealt with, but why suffer the pain
in the butt if you don't have to?
