	You mean "undue stress", yes?  Hardening always imparts stress,
	as far as I know... except MAYBE in maraging steel, which is a
	weird animal that hardens by the same means that regular steels
	are annealed or at least normalized.  No carbon content and I
	believe high nickel.  Forms martensite as it ages, hence "maraging".
