More stamp collecting.
I am sure Hay Buddens are wonderful anvils, and I am sure if you
routinely make chain from 2" round, you probably really need a 500lb
anvil. But anyone who is paying that kind of money for a pretty beat up
anvil like this is a "collector". I hate "collector's" unless they are
collecting my work. All they do is drive up the prices of tools that
otherwise could be used, so they can hoard them. And then, when they
die, their families usually split up the stuff anyway, often selling it
for less than it is "worth" because they just want to get rid of the
stuff. These are the same guys who have a yard full of cool old cars
with trees growing thru the hoods, who wont sell them because they are
getting more valuable, while in reality they are rotting away.

Anybody who wants a really big anvil would be better off, in my
opinion, giving their money to Russell Jacqua over at Nimba- he makes a
beautiful 450 lb cast steel anvil called a Gladiator, that will last a
hundred years or so, looks a lot better than that hay budden, and is
made in america now by a blacksmith.
