[TheForge] Steel ID question

This week I had a friend give me a couple hinge pins off of a CAT.  They are
about 2 1/2" diamiter and 12" long. They come from the point where the blade
arm connects to the frame.  He said that a few years ago the pins all had
holes in them for lubrication but now they have gone back to solid.

Does anyone know what these are made of? I think they would made good hammer
heads or trip hammer dies, if I knew what they were and how to heat treat.
