Consider neutral grey paper. Comes off a roll at your photo supply
house. I think it's better than white.
"I think..."? So I'm no photo expert. Learned about it at a workshop
with a pro photographer who did a lot of work for craftspeople of
various kinds. And my own photographer uses it.
Another thought: Although I've taken a lot of color slides for show
and tell, demos etc., I think you get more elegant results with iron
using B&W prints in many cases. Well, maybe only half. If there's
color in the metalwork; if it's installed in a colorful architectural
setting; if it includes wood or other non-metal components, then maybe
color is better. But for individual objects, the colors of other
things or just color tones in the background distract from the subtle
grey-scales of the iron.
