The disc drives themselves are largely dependent on the priciples Tesla
layed down in his pump. Basically the spinning disc will pull a small
layer of air(or fluid) with then due to surface frinction. This is the
same as the boundary layer in aerodynamics. Disc drives used to depend
on this layer to make the head "float" over the surface without touching
it. The Tesla turbine works as either a pump, or as a steam/air motor
