That might make the pattern possiblities even more interesting.
The prototype 3DP rig that I saw circa 1994 was actually cobbled
together from a dot matrix printer and a desktop computer but it only
had one printer nozzle. I suppose that making one with two nozzles
wouldn't be that much harder. Then you could "print" up any 3D matrix
you wanted from a digital spec, limited only by the size of the
grains, then slide it into the form to press and weld it.

Hmm... Maybe Peggy is going to get a DVD player for Christmas after
all. :-) Numerous computers notwithstanding, this is a pretty
lo-tech, trailing-edge household.
