hello;

i thought i would give a brief update on theforge searchable archives.

i have been looking at the tforge.tar.gz archives and sorry to say
they are missing messages and some files are corrupt.
in the tforge.tar.gz archives the following are completely missing.

12 dec 1998 through 18 mar 1999 messages are missing.

09 aug 1999 theforge/199908/19990809.html is corrupt.

it may be worth asking alan at qth.net if he still has the original
mailbox files used to create the tforge.tar.gz archives.

i have theforge majordome digests from

theforge-digest Saturday, December 12 1998 Volume 01 : Number 003
theforge-digest Friday, November 23 2001 Volume 01 : Number 2132

theforge-digest started numbering at 3 so there are no theforge-digests
numbered 00, 01, or 02.

i can use theforge-digests and parts of the tforge.tar.gz archives to fill
in those messages which are missing from the theforge-digests.

i have e-mailed the archiver at wustl.edu asking if artmetal and/or theforge
e-mail list archives may be on backup tapes. i have not heard back from the
archiver.

a certain amount of reformatting is going to have to take place.
this is not "wholesale" reformatting but rather individual message
reformatting.

i am probably going to indicate in the individual messages if any
reformatting was done. something like:

( note: the message was reformatted. )

at the beginning of the message.
