Andy,
If you are an IT geek you can be a valuable asset in the world of power plant controls, power generation monitoring systems, etc.

You might need to start out as a "job shopper" some one who works on contract until you demonstrate your value for a full time position.

There are tons of applications for IT cumputer controls guys. If oyu PLCs even better.

The power gen world runs on PLCs, and applications from Wonderware, to Intellution, to Cimplicity, and more.

Power gen gear has monitoring systems like PowerTrac, PowerLogics, etc.

You don't really need to be experienced in the systems specifically. Most OEMs have to train all their people regularly anyway as the systems change so fast.

Check out magazines like Power, Power Gen, Power Engineering.

There are specific web sites with Monster.com like tools for jobs in power generation.

When I left field service in 1984!!! guys over sees were making almost 6 figures.

Today with paid overtime, per diem, bonuses, you could be well into six figures.
