[TheForge] Bar Shear

Hello again all -

Although I feel a little goofy answering my own post, I must tell you
all that I found 2 examples in "The Art Of Blacksmithing" by Alex Bealer.
They are not exactly what I was thinking of, but really the closest thing I
have seen yet. He calls them "Shear Cutters" and they have approximately 12
inch long blades.
I remember seeing one in the shop of Matthew Edel (in Iowa) when I
visited there once, but I didn't have enough sense to draw some sketches of
how the leverage worked, and I didn't have my camera with. If I ever go
there again, I will make sure to take a camera, but I don't think that will
be soon. (About a 6 hour trip if I recall correctly.) His takes about a
180 degree movement of the handle to fully close the blade. This could
amount to a LOT of leverage. The closest I can some up with seems to be
about 70 degrees of handle movement.
We'll see now if someone can some up with a leverage system that will
work with this style of cutter and if they will post it. I really believe
that lots of guys have seen these and I just need to find someone close
enough to one to take pics of it and share with us.

Thanks for listening to my rambling,
Rick
