How about seeing if Consumer Reports, AWS or another consumer testing
organization or industry association would take on the testing?

I wonder a bit if manufacturers would be enthusiastic about a
head-to-head for one thing. Testing would have to take into account the
advertised design purposes of each product for another.

Direct competitions could have significant consequences for the
manufacturers, such as lost business, or legal ramifications for the
testers, especially if the manufacturers could legitimately claim the
tests were not direct comparisons, apples to apples.

Maybe a kind of decathlon, to demonstrate the suitability of each torch
for the most common smithing/fabricating/demolition tasks?

IIRC the Petrogen is mainly advertised as a demolition tool, for example.
