This is beginning to sound like the thread about Super Quench. Rob Gunther developed SQ at Scandia Labs to replace the more dangerous lye quench. The folks at the lab said it couldn't harden carbon steel, but it does, if you use the correct formula and procedure. I'd put my money on practical experience with the Allstate torch. Chuck
