I use (and recommend to many of my customers) the Backup My PC program from
Stomp.

I have been using this product's predecessor (used to be sold by
Veritas/Seagate) for many years. It can be downloaded from the web site for
$69 but I buy it at the local Sam's Club or Costco for 49 (sometimes also
has a $10 rebate). This program can back up to CD's, DVD's, Tape Drives, or
a File. I have several customers who use an external USB hard disk that is
brought out of the fire proof file cabinet for the backup and then returned
to the cabinet for safe keeping. I have several others that use it to back
up laptops to the network server when those folks are in the office.
